The challenge
A multi-location academic medical center struggled to manage two aging legacy Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) on top of emerging Meaningful Use regulations. Additionally, minimal integration between facilities created missed opportunities for both operational efficiencies and increased revenue.
The approach
Vynamic was responsible for enabling all data exchange between the new LIS and the Hospital Information Systems (HIS). This involved 40+ data interfaces including patient registration, EMR and ultimately billing for laboratory services. Vynamic employed a collaborative, results oriented approach to drive contractors, lab technicians, client IT and the LIS vendor through the system integration test process. Vynamic managed the test strategy, test planning, test execution, and production cut-over activities.
The results
The enterprise-wide LIS solution enabled the following results:
- Standardized laboratory services test menu for clinicians across all sites
- Streamlined workflows to facilitate ‘in-house’ laboratory services, thus retaining revenue within the health system
- 11,000 orders processed on a daily basis; estimation of 15 million patient lab results per year
- Robust technology allowing the health system to attest to Meaningful Use requirements regarding laboratory services
